Ask The Pastor

Why Does God
Allow Evil?
How do I deal with all the demands on
my life?
Since I can worship God anywhere, why go to church? What does the Bible say about friendship? Why don't I feel God's love? Why are there so many Bible versions?
How can I go to church when I work most Sundays? What does the Bible teach about God?
Part 1
What does the Bible teach about God?
Part 2
Does God want me to vote? How do I honor my parents? Why doesn't God answer my prayers?
What is Heaven like? Does God care what I wear? When is the Second Coming of the Lord? How do I respond to the Second Coming?

While I have heard that God loves me, I don't feel God's love. Why don't I feel God's love?

By Pastor Chuck Lovelady

While I can’t know the exact reason why you don’t feel God’s love, I do know that God does loves even when you don’t feel it.

After our children were born,  I started to sound like my parents: “eat your vegetables,” and  “be nice to your sister.”  I started doing and saying things that I told myself that I never would do.  As I look back now,  I realize my parents loved me even when I did not feel it. God also loves even when we do not feel it.

While God’s love is seen in that most of us have our basic needs our met, His  love is seen ultimately in the sending of His Son. A well-known verse in the Bible is a declaration of God’s Love.  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 ).”

I encourage people to make this verse more specific to themselves, by putting their own name into it.  In applying this to myself,  "For God so loved  [Chuck]that he gave his one and only Son, that [if Chuck]  believes in him    [Chuck ] shall not perish but have eternal life.  Now put your own name into the verse.

God’s love is also seen and felt  in the development of relationship. A relationship with God is something which must be nurtured. We can’t grow in a relationship with another person without time and effort. If I had gotten married and then ignored my spouse, we would not have much of a relationship now. In our relationship with God, it also must be something which we invest time and effort. When I was a new Christian twenty years ago, a friend insightfully told me, “you are the only person who could hinder your walk with the Lord.”

The letter of  I John (not the Gospel) is written to people who have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  A key theme of the book is the development of relationship with the Lord.  If you are a Christian, I would encourage you to read the 5 chapters in the letter of 1 John, once a day for a week.  If you are not a Christian, I would encourage you to respond to the promise of John 3:16.

Your feelings regarding God’s love are valid, but hold to what God says is true about Himself and especially His great love for you.
