Why Does God
Allow Evil?
How do I deal with all the demands on
my life?
Since I can worship God anywhere, why go to church? What does the Bible say about friendship? Why don't I feel God's love? Why are there so many Bible versions?
How can I go to church when I work most Sundays? What does the Bible teach about God?
Part 1
What does the Bible teach about God?
Part 2
Does God want me to vote? How do I honor my parents? Why doesn't God answer my prayers?
What is Heaven like? Does God care what I wear? When is the Second Coming of the Lord? How do I respond to the Second Coming?

How do I deal with all the demands on my life?

By Pastor Chuck Lovelady

Almost everyone I talk to would say that they are busy. Occasionally they describe these demands. These demands fit into different categories. The following categories are representative, not exhaustive.

Some demands are from work circumstances. The three months before April 15th are going to difficult if you are an accountant.  In today’s competitive economy many companies want more work from fewer employees. Changing positions can’t be done easily for most of us.

Other demands are from uncontrollable situations. Some of the most amazing people I have met are those who are raising special needs children.  God seems to give many people an extra portion of grace to cope and even prosper in those circumstances.

Demands can also come from inappropriate expectations.  A mother who was being interviewed by Dr. Phil complained about the stress in her life. The show then examined how she had her family scheduled in so many activities that being overwhelmed was only reasonable.

After reviewing her hectic pace, Dr. Phil said, “What are you doing? What else could you expect from your choices? ”  She couldn’t do it all; we can’t do it all. There is no such thing as a supermom or a superdad. No one has the time or energy to do it all.

In responding to the demands on your life, determine what is truly important.  Your family needs your presence, much more than what you can provide in possessions.  Don’t ignore relationships with family and others that God has placed in your path. Don’t ignore your relationship with God.

I appreciate these words from an old hymn: “Take time to holy; Speak oft with thy Lord. Abide in Him always and feed on His Word. Make friends with God’s children; Help those who are weak.  Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.”

Don’t let the busyness of life distract you from what is important.  It is easy to get caught up in activities and possessions.  I’ve seen too many people love things and use people, when God’s desire is that we love people and use things.

Learn to say NO.  We can’t live by other people’s expectations without being overwhelmed.  When you are asked to do a good activity, which would keep you from doing a better activity, learn to say NO. The decision is generally not between the good and the bad, but it is between the good and the best.

Jesus  described the ‘restfulness’ which comes from having our lives connected to Him.  “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  Matthew 11:29 (NIV) “

Doing more in response to the demands of life is not going to make your life better.  Determine what is most important in your life and make your decisions accordingly.  Ultimately, doing well in regards to your relationships with others and with the Lord is what will make your life better.
