I think the most helpful response to your question would be to look at a few of the attributes of God. Christian theologians over the centuries have divided the attributes of God into two broad categories. The first category covers those attributes of God in which there is a human correspondence. For example, God loves, people love. The second category consists of those attributes in which there is no human correspondence. For example, God is everywhere present, while people are in only one place at a time. The first category is called communicable (comparative) attributes and the second incommunicable (absolute) attributes. In this article I will look at the first category of attributes, while in a later article I will look at the second category.
The most emphasized attribute of God in the Bible is holiness. In describing a vision of God’s throne, the Prophet Isaiah wrote, “And they were calling to one another:
|
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." Isaiah 6:3. Holiness means that God is completely separate from sin because of He is absolutely pure and wholly undefiled. The Apostle Peter wrote to Christians, “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; [16] for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." I Peter 1:15-16. We are called to be holy and our holiness is a reflection of God’s holiness.
The Bible also makes is clear that God is good. Psalm 73:1 “Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.” Psalm 84:11 “ For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” The Prophet Micah was writing to believers when he stated, “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8.

These verses clearly declare the goodness God and call on believers to be good. Then he defines what he means by good.
While most people have experienced and expressed love for others, the magnitude of God’s love is truly amazing. The Apostle John, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
I John 4:8-10.
These three communicable (comparative) attributes are representative of many more and should encourage us to grow in all aspects of our relationship with God.
